What are Smaller Learning Communities?

The Smaller Learning Communities program is a national initiative dedicated to assisting public education systems of 1,000 students or more in breaking down their school systems into smaller "communities." The purpose behind creating smaller communities is to foster an environment within the school structure that promotes student involvement, and a sense of belonging. Research has shown these characteristics to have a positive impact on increasing student academic achievement, retention rates, and creates an environment where other initiatives can be better implemented as a result of the personalized attention to details of the program for each school.

What are the goals of Smaller Learning Communities?

    • Improve Academic Achievements
    • Decrease discipline removal
    • Increase student Attendance
    • Decrease Dropout Rates

Experience has shown that helping students develop positive habits in these areas help build a foundation for a long-term success through high school and beyond.
