Attendance
The Austin ISD requires that high school students attend school at least 95% of the school days each semester. No distinction is made between excused and un-excused absences. If students are not in attendance for 95% of the school days, there is an appeal process. The Texas Education Agency allows for students to be counted present for on of the following reasons:
  1. Participating in an activity, which is approved by the local school board.
  2. Participating in a mentorship approved by district personnel.
  3. Medicaid- eligible student is participating in testing by DHS.
  4. Observing religious holy days.
  5. Appointment with health care professional.
Absence-Reporting Procedure
A parent or guardian is required to send documentation on the morning that the student returns to school. The note should have the following information: the date, the student's name, the date of the absences, the reason for the absence, a parent or guardian's signature, and a telephone number where the parent or guardian may be reached. The student must deposit the note in the locked box on the counter in the main office.
Appeal Process
Students who are in danger of not meeting the 95% of days of class attendance requirement, but who successfully meet the other course requirements and earn a passing grade, will receive NC (no credit). Students may appeal to have the NC converted to the earned passing grade by making a request for appeals hearing with the attendance committee within six weeks that the absence occurrred. After reviewing the attendance record and reasons for absences of the student in question, the committee will waiver the NC or deny the request. If a student's request is denied, the student will receive no credit for the course and must repeat the class in order to gain credit.
Excuse to Leave School
If it is necessary for students to leave school during the day, they must have a written note from parents or guardians. Students should take the note to the main office desk at the time of departure in order to receive the Pink Permit to leave. Upon returning to school, students should report to main office with proper documentation (i.e. doctor's note, etc.)
No Credits

Students with more than 9 absences in any class for a semester will not receive credit for that course. All students receiving "NC" for any course due to excessive absences must appeal to NC with an Attendance Appeal Form, in order to regain the credit. The form is available on the LBJ website (see below) or outside room 269. Students who fail to to appeal NC's successfully must retake the course for credit.

All NC appeal for the Spring 2006(May) semester must be completed before December 13, 2006

All NC appeals for the fall 2006(December) semester must be completed before May 16, 2007.

Seniors with more than absences for the Spring Semester (2007), in any course, will put that course into an NC condition on their final transcripts!
